We thank you. As we enter a season of thanksgiving and joy we ask that you cneter us and keep our perspective true.
A thankful heart isn't easy to come by. It's not something that can be forced. To truly be thankful when the world says you shouldn't be is a gift. Some people are naturally more thankful than others, I would call it a spiritual gift.
What the world does though, is give us 1000 reasons for every circumstance to grumble and focus on what not to be thankful for.
How does one be thankful in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES?
Well, in the verse just before this one Paul says to "never stop praying". Then in the verse immediately after this Paul says, "Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.".
You see? Being thankful is a spiritual situation. It requires prayer and the Holy Spirit. To truly focus on the Lord in all situations is not something that comes naturally.
I think the first step towards being thankful in "all circumstances" is to be honest. We can't face the things that are holding us back from being thankful if we deny their existence. If the key to thankfulness is the Lord, then he is surely capable of taking on the thing that are holding us back.
So, what things have been holding you hostage? What are those things that have kept you from being truly thankful? What have you been grumbling about?
The moments in life when I'm thankful are some of the most life filled moments that I have experienced. Thanksgiving is life giving.
As we enter into this season, embrace it. Give to the Lord the burdens. Allow him to reorientate you towards thankfulness. Be full of thanks and be full of life.
Quick note for the rest of the year:
I'm going to be trying something different. We are going to be sharing stories of what the Lord has done in our lives; but to do that, we have to be honest... we have to address the bad time as well as the good times. We are going to do this through video... so it's going to be REAL honest. So if you have a story that you would possibly like to share, let's talk about it.
